Warning: The unexpected wedding planning nightmares

When you announce your engagement, an outpouring of congratulations and well wishes tend to come your way. People will comment “You must be having fun planning your wedding!”.  In many ways, all of these things are true and you can’t believe how lucky you are to be planning forever and ever with the one you love.

However, things just happen. No matter how much advice you get from mum, your recent bride friends or your future sister-in-law, there are nightmares you can’t prepare for. Here are some of them:

  1. The grouchy groom. Lots of brides misinterpret this and provide meaning to a groom’s actions or inactions during the planning process.  Take a moment to stop and think. Maybe he’s not  into choosing the place cards or boutonnieres. Provide him with a task that suits his interests – cars, music, food etc.

  2. Price hikes. Ugh. You’ve budgeted your hard earned savings and then suddenly found out that  vendor’s fees and items cost a third more than what you’ve allotted for. Make sure you have a little padding when it comes to your wedding budget, or you can look for other alternatives that will still work well with your wedding plans.

  3. Demands, opinions and requests overload. All of a sudden, your well-wishers come out of the woodwork with a demand, an opinion, a problem with small things, and then worse, an attitude toward your wedding choices.

  4. Your maid of honor or one of your bridesmaids transformed from enthusiastic and honored into a total diva. Ah, wedding planning really has a way of making those horns grow out of someone’s head.

  5. Getting scammed. You booked your videographer online, paid for a deposit and suddenly find out they don’t even exist! Argh.  It pays to have time to research the details, really.
