Q & A: Is it okay to get married on Easter Sunday?

Q & A: Is it okay to get married on Easter Sunday?

Our experts say:

Confirm first with your family and friend if this date is fine with them. They may have family traditions to observe during this holiday. Also, Ask your officiant if it is okay to perform a wedding on Easter. Keep in mind that this is the holiest day of the year for Christians and some priests (Catholic priests particularly) will not perform wedding ceremonies during the Lenten season.

Getting married on a holiday also means there might be heavy traffic in your reception or wedding venue and if your ceremony is out of town, guests may have to pay much more for hotels or air fare.

How to Save Big Money on your Wedding

Yes, you’ve successfully saved up for your wedding – congratulations! Now it’s time to plan all the details. Hey, who wouldn’t love to save even more while you are going through the wedding expenses? This of course, can really be done without shortchanging the biggest day of your life. Ready for this?

The Thankyou team gathered around and discussed the perfect alternatives and ways to save money on weddings. Here’s what we thought:

Go for a DJ instead of a multi-piece band.

According to the Real Weddings Study, the average cost of a wedding band in 2012 was $3,084, while a DJ’s average cost is around $998. Even if you don’t do the math, you’d know just by looking at the figures that you are likely to bank big savings if you hire a DJ. Plus, hiring a band would also slightly increase your catering expenses. Wedding meals can cost around $50-$75 per person and even more sometimes for bigger and more lavish celebrations.

The Gift Registry No No’s

Creating a gift registry is easy, fun and practical and it truly is a dream come true to receive the gifts your heart desires! While you and your partner are having fun listing the items you like, we’d like you keep in mind that it is a NO NO to:

Put the gift registry information on the invitation itself.

While gift giving is a long-standing tradition for weddings, baby showers and other special occasions, this process depends upon the preferences (and generosity) of your Guests. You can use an invitation insert – it’s a small card with all the info that will guide your Guests. Oh, and do not send the gift registry information along with your save the date cards either.
